As reported by Island News, Arielle Konig issued a petition for a temporary restraining order against Gerhardt. In the court filing, Arielle details Gerhardt's "extreme jealousy" due to him believing his wife had been having an affair since December 2024. "Since then, he has attempted to control and monitor all of my communications," Arielle wrote. "We have been participating in both couples and individual therapy and counseling."
Moreover, after Gerhardt allegedly attempted to murder Arielle, she said that he FaceTimed his adult son from a previous marriage right afterward. Chillingly, Arielle claimed that Gerhardt told his son, "I just tried to kill Ari, but she got away." Furthermore, Gerhardt allegedly told his son that he wanted to jump off a cliff, and kill himself.
Attempted Murder
As per the New York Post, despite having marital issues, the couple started participating in couples therapy, as well as individual therapy. This seemed to improve things between them, leading them to travel to Hawaii to celebrate Arielle's 36th birthday. However, at the Pali Lookout in Oahu, things allegedly turned violent when Arielle refused to take a picture with Gerhardt.
Allegedly, Gerhardt tried to push Arielle off a cliff and then struck her with a rock. Moreover, he allegedly tried to jab her with two syringes. Arielle commented on the syringes in her filing, saying that she didn't know what was inside them.
"Gerhardt is an anesthesiologist and has access to several potentially lethal medications as part of his employment," Arielle wrote.
First responders rushed Arielle to the Queen's Medical Center. She suffered multiple facial and head injuries. Authorities arrested Gerhardt hours later near Pali Highway.
Defense And Order Signed
As per Island News, Michael Green, Gerhardt's attorney, said that they could try to recover the syringes from the scene. "They don't need the syringes to prove anything," Green said. "But, if the syringes are a part of the puzzle, circumstantial evidence, why would someone be carrying syringes up the Pali lookout? And what was in the syringes?"
Green also argued that Arielle's TRO petition was a way for the prosecution to point toward Gerhardt's intent for the alleged murder attempt. "Motive. Why would the accused want to kill his wife in this case, when you read the declaration in the TRO, she says why. She says why he was angry," Green added.
Furtherly, Green deemed the TRO "irrelevant" and that "it gives the accused and his lawyer a sense of what this woman will testify to at a trial and probably at a grand jury." Regardless, as per The Associated Press, a judge signed an order on Friday, March 28, ordering Gerhardt Konig to stay away from Arielle and their children.
Authorities charged Gerhardt Konig with attempted second-degree murder. Initially, his bail was set at $5 million, but he is now being held without bail, as per Island News.
