Konnan Had a Kidney Transplant Eight Years Ago
Konnan began wrestling in 1988. Fans will remember his brief time in the WWE in the early 1990s.
But the Cuban-American wrestler had his breakthrough when he joined the WCW. In the five years he was with the league, he won the WCW Television Championship and the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship.
Konnan also has two WCW Tag Team Championships. The first was with the legendary Rey Mysterio Jr. He also won the title with Billy Kidman. Konnan also was in TNA and was inducted into that league's Hall of Fame this year.
But the wrestler has faced numerous health challenges during his retirement. According to Latin Lover (real name Victor Ruiz), the 62-year-old Konnan told him that his body rejected the kidney he received eight years ago.
"He had a kidney transplant some years ago," said Latin Lover. "I remember. I'm telling you, that was made public, so that's why if I say it, there's nothing wrong with that. But his body, after eight years — after eight years — rejected that organ that obviously somebody donated. Someone donated it to him, they put it in him, and his body rejected it."
This comes amid news that Konnan may have had at least one of his legs amputated.
The Legend's Health Is "Hanging by a Very, Very Thin Thread"
Latin Lover elaborated on Konnan's alleged health issues.
"And that's why, before all those speculations about whether they cut off one leg, two legs or not, he was waiting for another kidney transplant — rather, for somebody who could donate one or for one to become available," the podcaster shared. "There was also talk about poor circulation in his legs.
"And then, on top of that, carrying the weight of having an organ — the kidney — failing and waiting, and while it doesn't arrive, your health is hanging by a very, very thin thread."
