Pro Soccer Player Dies After Falling 11 Stories From Building

Former pro Major League Soccer player Aaron Boupendza has died after falling 11 stories from a building. This happened on the 11th floor of an apartment building in Zhejiang, China, on Wednesday. The 28-year-old had been living in China as he played in the Chinese Super League for Shejiang FC, according to the New York Post.

In response to the tragic death, FC Cincinnati wrote a social media post in remembrance of the soccer star. "We are saddened to hear of the tragic passing of former FC Cincinnati forward Aaron Boupendza earlier today at his home in China," it wrote.

"Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and loved ones. He was a loved member of the FC Cincinnati family, and we offer our condolences to all who knew him. Rest in Peace, Aaron."

Reports say that before the fall, Boupendza was in his apartment with his brother. They were allegedly engaging in an argument, which makes the situation more suspicious. Chinese officials are still trying to figure out if the soccer player fell due to a suicide, by accident, or if it was a homicide.

The outlet stated that the authorities would soon question Boupendza's brother. So far, they haven't arrested him or anyone else as the investigation is still in its early stages.

According to Turkiye Today, Boupendza was native to Gabon and played as a striker. Boupendza also never showed up to his team's recent training session. Zhejiang FC officials were unable to contact him, but this was before they knew of his death.

The soccer striker was recognized as a top scorer in the Turkish Super League. He scored 22 goals in his 36 matches of the 2020-21 season. The outlet also mentioned several clubs he played in during his sports career. These included CF Mounana, Bordeaux, Pau FC, Ajaccio, Tours FC, Feirense, Al-Arabi, Al-Shabab, FC Cincinnati, Rapid Bucharest, and recently Zhejiang FC.

Boupendza began his bright career in France's Ligue 2 in the 2018-19 season. He had scored six goals within 10 matches. His native Gabonese National Team remembers him as an incredible player. "At 28 years old, Boupendza is remembered as a great striker who made an impression during the (Confederation of African Football) in Cameroon," wrote the Gabonese Football Federation, per the NY Post.
