President Trump's Comments on NATO Troops Rile This 70s Music Legend: "So Disrespectful"

Sir Rod Stewart is steaming. The famed British rocker is speaking out about President Donald Trump's recent controversial comments about NATO troops in Afghanistan. Trump told

Fox Business recently that "We have never really asked anything of them. You know, they'll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan or this or that, and they did. They stayed a little back, little off the front lines."

Those Remarks Brought Criticism

Trump's remarks reportedly irked prominent individuals such as U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Prince Harry. Both were among those who spoke out against the president's views. Per Fox News Digital, a spokesperson for Starmer explained, ""The Prime Minister [p]raised the brave and heroic British and American soldiers who fought side by side in Afghanistan, many of whom never returned home. We must never forget their sacrifice."

Prince Harry was equally forceful in his pushback. "I served there. I made lifelong friends there. And I lost friends there. Those sacrifices deserve to be spoken about truthfully and with respect, as we all remain united and loyal to the defense of diplomacy and peace."

Rod Stewart also added his voice to the those who were upset by President Trump's stance on this issue.

Rod Stewart Made His Feelings Clear

Stewart, 81, in a video posted to Instagram, broke his silence on the matter. Dressed in formal-looking black garb with a white shirt and standing in what looks like an elegant drawing room, the "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" singer said, ""Hi there. I may just be a humble rock star. I'm also a knight of the realm, and I have my opinions."

He added, "I was born just after the war [World War II], and have great respect for our armed forces that fought and gave us our freedom. So, it hurts me badly, deeply, when I read that the draft dodger Trump has criticized our troops in Afghanistan for not being on the front line. We lost over 400 of our guys. Think of their parents. Think about it! And Trump calls 'em almost like cowards. It's unbearable. So I'm calling on you, Prime Minister Starmer and [Reform UK leader Nigel] Farage. Please, make the draft dodger Trump apologize, please."

As Stewart talks, captions appear such as "We shall never forget," "Honor them," "Take a Stand," and "So disrespectful." At the conclusion of his statement, Stewart salutes and walks out of camera range.

Trump Dialed Back His Earlier Observations

Trump later softened his earlier remarks. In a post dated January 24, 2026, on Truth Social, he said, "The GREAT and very BRAVE soldiers of the United Kingdom will always be with the United States of America! In Afghanistan, 457 died, many were badly injured, and they were among the greatest of all warriors. It's a bond too strong to ever be broken. The U.K. Military, with tremendous Heart and Soul, is second to none (except for the U.S.A.!). We love you all, and always will!"
