Gender Reveal Party At Sister's Wedding Reception: The Audacity

Honestly, the audacity of this woman for even asking this of her sister astounds me. Weddings are meant to be a celebration of love between the two individuals getting married — that it is. All those who gathered chose to come as witnesses to this beautiful moment. A moment where two people pledge their lives to one another.

Anyone who wants to do anything to steal that moment from them is — in my opinion — utterly selfish. However this woman who wants to host her gender reveal party at her sister's wedding obviously does not agree. The bride-to-be shared her dilemma in a Reddit post when she needed some advice on the situation.

The woman shared that she and her fiancé had been planning the celebration for over a year and were very excited about their special day. Additionally, she shared that her sister was obsessed with an over-the-top gender reveal party for her first child. She wrote, "My sister is one of the Pinterest-loving, gender -reveal-party enthusiasts."

Then she continued, "She's been planning this big reveal since she found out she was pregnant — I swear her Pinterest boards are a terrifying mix of pink and blue confetti and cake explosions." While she may not have the same interest in gender reveal parties as her sister, she wished her the best.

That is until her sister dropped a bomb on her at a family dinner. The bride-to-be admitted that her sister shared that she wanted to host her gender reveal party at her sister's wedding reception. The bride-to-be added that her sister even had a plan. "Halfway through the reception, she'd cut the cake, and boom, it's either pink or blue inside."

Gender Reveal Party Causes Family Feud

Although her sister was excited by the idea, the bride-to-be admits that she was taken aback. After all, this was meant to be her day. However, she told her sister she would consider it. Despite her kind words, after chatting with her fiancé about the idea, the pair agreed that their wedding was not the right place for a gender reveal party.

They wanted their wedding to be about them and their love —heaven forbid. The bride-to-be-stated, "I want [the wedding] to be about me and my fiancé, not a baby we didn't make." While this makes sense to any sane person, her sister apparently does not fall into that category. Despite letting her down gently and offering to help her plan a gender reveal party in any was she can, the bride-to-be's sister was outraged.

She argued that the bride was selfish. Additionally, she said that having this gender reveal party at her sister's wedding reception would make it a "special family moment." Somehow, this woman's insanity, and her parents lack of a backbone, lead the bride to second-guess her decision. Thankfully, the people of Reddit rushed to her defense. Then, they assured her that the person in the wrong here, is her sister.

The Internet Responds

After questioning her decision, the bride-to-be took to Reddit and asked the people of the internet to answer the following question: "Was I being too selfish?" Like the good people of the internet always do, they answered in droves. Here are some of my favorite responses.

"Your wedding day is not a backdrop for someone else's announcement."

"You seriously need to reevaluate yourself as a person if you want to use someone else's wedding for your own little party."

"That is disgustingly selfish of her. Quite frankly that behavior makes me worried about the type of parent she'll be."

Others shared brilliant ideas on how to stop the sister if she is crazy enough to try her idea despite the bride's protests. They suggested that the bride-to-be hire security and to alert them of who your sister is. That way, if she turns up with boxes she will be turned away. Others suggested keeping her cake design secret and inform the wedding venue and caterer that anything that is not the cake she picked should be thrown away. Finally, one responder told her to include the photographer and videographer in the mix. They told her to make sure they ignored anything her sister tried to do in regards to a gender reveal.

Hopefully, the woman found peace after reading these comments and now knows it is absolutely bizarre for someone to want to host their gender reveal party at their sister's wedding.
