Postal Worker Killed in Georgia Crash

According to PEOPLE, DeKalb County police responded to reports of a crash at the intersection of Larkspur Terrace and Iris Lane on Monday evening.

When officers arrived, they found a two-vehicle collision involving a postal van and a passenger car.

Preliminary findings suggest the passenger vehicle turned from Iris Lane onto Larkspur Terrace before striking the postal truck, causing it to overturn.

Authorities later identified the victim as Tinisha Cade, 40, according to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office.

Cade was a mother of four, per Atlanta News First.

"A woman who lives nearby says she heard a loud boom around 7 p.m. She ran outside, hearing someone from a gray car screaming in the street, and a postal truck was overturned on its side," the outlet reported.

"Many neighbors rushed out to help, fearing the worst for a woman who had just delivered their mail in that truck."

Community Mourns as Investigation Continues

Witnesses told NBC-affiliate WXIA-TV that Cade became pinned beneath the vehicle as it overturned, leading to fatal injuries.

"The Postal Service is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a postal family member in a fatal incident on April 27," a Postal Service spokesperson said in a statement.

"Our thoughts are with their family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. We will be providing counseling services to our employees at the Decatur Main Post Office as the investigation into the incident continues.

Authorities said it took several hours to clear the scene and remove both vehicles.

Coworkers and community members later gathered nearby, mourning the loss.

"She was very nice. Any time she delivered mail here she spoke to everybody. She was real friendly and this is not her route often, but she would a lot of times sub for other drivers," a neighbor told Atlanta News First.

"So from my understanding she wasn't supposed to be at work yesterday."

Officials continue to investigate the crash, including the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the incident.
