Popular Singer Has Concert Interrupted by Tear Gas Thrown at Stage

A fan reportedly threw tear gas toward the stage during one of Ricky Martin's European shows as part of his world tour

Ricky Martin had a nasty surprise during a recent show in Europe. The "She Bangs" singer was performing in Montenegro, on the opening night for the European leg of his tour, when his concert was interrupted. An individual in the crowd had "discharged tear gas toward the stage."

Martin's publicist, Róndine Alcalá, provided fans with an update via a statement on Instagram.

"During Ricky Martin's concert tonight in Montenegro - where the artist was kicking off the European leg of his Ricky Martin Live tour - an individual discharged tear gas toward the stage, causing an abrupt interruption of the show as audience members moved away from the area and received assistance," the statement began.

Alcalá's statement continued to detail how Martin and his team dealt with the incident by leaving the stage.

"As a precautionary measure, Ricky Martin and his entire team immediately exited the stage while security personnel and local authorities worked to contain the situation and ensure the safety of those in attendance."

Despite the setback and against the advice of his team, Martin eventually returned to the stage to continue his show.

"Ricky Martin made the decision to resume the concert in order to fulfill his commitment to his fans," the statement concluded. "The artist will continue his Ricky Martin Live tour with upcoming performances across Europe and additional international dates as scheduled."

Ricky Martin Has Six Dates Left in Europe

It doesn't seem like Martin has let the incident slow him down. He's still working his way around Europe and has six stops remaining. His next show will be on Sunday, Jun 21, at the SanPark Live Arena in Italy.

He will then travel to the Czech Republic for two separate dates before making the trip to Krakow, Poland on July 2. A week later, Martin will be in Istanbul, Turkey. He then heads over to the United Kingdom to wrap up the European leg of his tour, playing at the famed Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

Martin still boasts a sizeable fanbase. And while the incident in Montenegro was undoubtedly disturbing, he deserves credit for pushing forward so his fans get the opportunity to see him live in action.
