A tragic nightclub fire has brought down the roof of the building, killing the lead singer of the performing band as he battled the flames to save his fans.

North Macedonian singer Andrej Gjorgieski was performing with his group, DNK, at Club Pulse, in Ko?ani. As the pyrotechnics began in the old carpet warehouse, they set the building on fire. Within minutes, the building was burning, with many of the fans and musicians still inside.
Despite managing to get out safely, Gjorgieski rushed back into the nightclub fire to help the young people still inside. As the nightclub burned, he battled the flames to try and save a few lives. However, in doing so, he lost his own.
The fire ate through the old nightclub structure in moments, and the roof of the building collapsed onto the people below. The smoke and confusion have been seen in footage from the event. Fans can be seen running through the confusion, urged to leave by the lead singer.

North Macedonia is a small country of only 2 million. There were a total of 59 killed and 150 injured in the nightclub fire. Among the dead are the band's photographer, Aleksandar Efremov, as well as backing singer Sara Projkovska, drummer Gjorgji Gjorgiev, and keyboard player Filip Stevanovski.
North Macedonia has not seen a tragedy this devastating for many years. Neighboring countries including Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, and Serbia have offered their help in Balkan solidarity. The country will need help with the many injured people resulting from the nightclub fire.
The tragedy has shocked the small nation, with many of the hospitals having to take in the injured fans. The manager of DMK spoke out about the incident, and the heroics of the lead singer. "I have never met such a good and humble person in my life," he told the Independent. "We hope that this will make us all aware as a nation and that the state will not allow such tragedies to happen to us again."
Since then, there have been protests demanding justice for the dead. So far, there have been 20 arrests in connection with the Nightclub fire, including the Nightclub manager. It transpired that the venue was unlicensed, and therefore, the event was not legal.
