What Health Food Has Been Recalled?

The FDA's recall notice states that Snack Right Super Foods, Inc. of Coral Gables, Florida, is the company who produced the recalled products.

The specific recall their products face comes from contaminated kale which made its way into bags of Snack Right Super Foods' "Brad's Raw Chips" range - more specifically, their Crunchy Kale and Kale Veggie Chips are affected.

Here are all the details on the affected products:

What is Wrong With the Products?

The affected health food may be contaminated with thallium, a heavy metal: according to the FDA, "Thallium is a naturally occurring metal found in the soil and in sulfur-based minerals," which can cause "serious adverse health effects" if ingested "in relatively high levels".

"Acute or chronic exposure to thallium at relatively high levels can result in serious adverse health effects," the FDA continued - these include "gastroenteritis, damage to peripheral nerves, and hair loss", but are not the only symptoms.

The FDA originally found out what had happened following "one individual with elevated thallium levels" contacting them.

What Should I Do if My Product is Affected?

The FDA has advised individuals with affected products to "stop consuming them immediately" and also "discard the product". However, unlike other recent recalls, "Refunds are not being offered." It has also been noted that "the product should not be returned to the place of purchase."

Customers with questions and concerns have instead been advised to contact Alexa Olvera at Snack Right Super Foods, Inc. The FDA explained that they can do this via email, at [email protected], and that they should expect a response "within one business day", if they email between 10am-4pm Eastern time.
