Who serves the biggest, best fast-food breakfast in the United States? Unsurprisingly, different regions will have different favorites, but a few choices on this map really surprised us nonetheless. Using data collected from Foursquare Swarm, Business Insider looked into the most popular fast-food breakfasts in America.
Somewhat unsurprisingly, McDonald's all-day breakfast is No. 1 by far, taking the top spot in 49 of the 50 states. No one can resist hitting up the drive-thru for McDonald's egg McMuffin, hashbrowns or McGriddle. As for the one state that didn't pick McDonald's breakfast, it turns out Oklahomans really, really love their Sonic Drive-In.
And some popular fast food restaurants didn't make it on the list, like Wendy's, Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts and Carl's Jr. We truly don't know how the Breakfast Baconator or Classic Bacon, Egg and Cheese Sandwich Combo didn't get Wendy's on the map.
After knocking off the obvious top spot, BI put together this nifty map of the (second) most popular breakfast menus of different fast food chains in the U.S.:
Chick-fil-A's breakfast items dominate the Southeast, along with outliers Utah and Colorado, taking 12 states. Who can deny the deliciousness of their iced coffee, Chick-n-Minis or Egg White Grill for a morning meal?
Taco Bell has the truest fans in Oregon, Arizona, Alaska and Indiana. Let's be real, their breakfast Crunchwrap with jalapeño sauce is the best part of the menu.
Tied for first-place is Panera Bread, with another 12 states, packed into the Northeast and parts of the Midwest. They offer healthy but tasty options like greek yogurt parfaits and scrambled egg and cheese sandwiches.
Sonic Drive-In comes in next as six states' favorite for breakfast options - New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi - through the South and Midwest.
Next best fast food breakfast with four states is West-Coast favorite Jack in the Box, taking Washington, Idaho, Nevada and California. Popular breakfast menu items are the bacon, egg and cheese biscuit and the meat lovers breakfast burrito.
Subway is a favorite in two states on opposite ends of the country - Vermont and Montana - as is Burger King, leading in Nebraska and Maine. These states can't get enough of the Sausage, Egg & American Cheese Croissan'wich, the perfect buttery breakfast sandwich on a croissant.
From here on out, though, it's unlikely you've heard of these chains unless you're a regional native.
Upper Midwestern neighbors South Dakota and Minnesota share a love for Perkins Restaurant & Bakery.
Those living out in the islands of Hawaii start their days with Zippy's, and if you've spent any time in Texas, you'll know that out here, Whataburger is king.
Wyoming prefers their on-the-go breakfast from Old Chicago. North Dakota goes for Hardee's. Wisconsinites can't get enough of their Culver's Restaurant; and out in West Virginia, nothing beats a Bob Evans breakfast. All you need to say is Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit.
What do you think? Do you fall in line with the rest of your state's breakfast taste?
