A politician in Hawaii lost a few votes and nearly a couple of teeth in a physical altercation at a beach resort.

Video footage shared on Instagram shows congressional candidate Kirill Basin in a heated altercation with a group of Keawakapu Beach visitors.
The social media post does not reveal how the incident began, but picks up with the politician motioning for the group to leave and threatening violence.
"I told him if he wants to go to the hospital, come here," Basin told the group.
After shouting a few more expletives towards the group, the politician engaged in a beach brawl with a male beachgoer.
The video cuts to the final moments, in which the politician attempts to swing a chair before being flattened with a punch.
Later, the congressional candidate is shown telling the man that he is "going to jail" before walking off.
Several beachgoers allege that the politician wielded a knife, but tossed it in the ocean before authorities arrived.
Politician Arrested After Beach Brawl
Police later retrieved it and arrested Basin for two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening.
The social media video, which has drawn over 20k likes on Instagram, may put a damper on his congressional bid. Basin is challenging Rep. Jill Tokuda in Hawaii's 2nd congressional district.
Basin is not the first politician to go viral in a feisty altercation.
A debate in Mexico City's congress escalated into a brawl among lawmakers in December 2025. Video from inside the chamber showed several policymakers lunging at each other and throwing fists.
Reuters reported the brawl began over dissolving a department in Mexico City.
In 2023, two fights nearly broke out in a single afternoon at the US House of Congress.
Representatives Mike Rogers and Matt Gaetz nearly came to blows in January 2023, according to Forbes. Later that evening, Rep. Tim Burchett claims that Rep. Kevin McCarthy elbowed him in the back.
McCarthy later told reporters, "If I kidney-punched him, he'd be on the ground."
Recently, brawls have even broken out at the White House. Just not in the Oval Office.
