The growing wildlife airstrikes remains a concern for the FAA. In 2023 alone, according to their wildlife strike database, there were 19,400 strikes at 713 U.S. airports. Abroad, 236 U.S. Air Carriers reported wildlife strikes in 55 different countries. As per the FAA, reasons behind the increase include growing wildlife populations, an increase in aircraft movements, trends toward faster and quieter aircraft, and outreach to the aviation community.
