The crash took place at around 6:00 p.m. in Northeast Philadelphia at the Roosevelt Boulevard and Cottman Avenue intersection, just outside Roosevelt Mall. The medical plane, a Learjet 55, departed from the Northeast Philadelphia Airport.

The United States Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, confirmed that there were six people on board. Jet Rescue Air Ambulance indicated that the medical jet carried four crew members, a pediatric patient, and the patient's escort, according to a statement shared with NBC News. The company cannot confirm any survivors.

Pediatric Patient Onboard

One Jet Rescue Air Ambulance spokesman, Shai Gold, told the outlet that the pediatric patient was a girl, with her escort being her mother. According to Gold, the girl was from Tijuana, Mexico, and she traveled to the U.S. to receive treatment "sponsored by a third-partner charity." "She did her course of care. She was going home," Gold said.

"Our immediate concern is for the patient's family, our personnel, their families and other victims that may have been hurt on the ground," the statement reads.

Video footage of the crash shows the play plummeting into the residential neighborhood. The plane seems to be already engulfed in flames. What followed was a huge bright light and fire that illuminated the streets of Northeast Philadelphia.

Fire engulfed businesses and houses in the area following the crash and explosion. Parts of the plane also hit several cars when the plane hit the ground. Local police have reported several injuries on the ground. Six people have been hospitalized. Among them are an 11-year-old boy, a 31-year-old man, and a 30-year-old woman. The remaining three have since been released.

Authorities Address The Incident

Hours after the incident took place, Mayor Cherelle Parker held a news conference, addressing the incident.

"An aircraft went down in the vicinity of the Roosevelt Mall on Cottman Avenue. This occurred shortly after 6 p.m. this evening. As of right now, we have no reports on the number of fatalities," Parker said. "So right now, we're just asking for prayers."

Parker urged people to stay away from the scene, to not touch anything, and to call 911 instead.

Governor Josh Shapiro stated that he has talked with Mayor Parker and is in communication with the Philadelphia Police Department, the Office of Emergency Management, and the Philadelphia Fire Department.

"We are offering all Commonwealth resources as they respond to the small private plane crash in Northeast Philly. We'll continue to provide updates as more information is available," Shapiro wrote on X.

President Donald Trump also addressed the plane crash on social media. "So sad to see the plane go down in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania," Trump said in his statement. "More innocent souls lost. Our people are totally engaged. First Responders are already being given credit for doing a great job. More to follow. God Bless you all"
