The 28-year-old victim suffered a gunshot wound to the back of the head while attempting to complete a delivery during the early hours of Friday morning.

Authorities said the incident occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m.

Pizza Delivery Driver Dies After Ambush at Vacant Property

Police responded quickly after receiving reports of gunfire in the area.

When officers arrived, they found the victim "lying on the ground unresponsive, bleeding heavily with a gunshot wound to his head."

The man was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead at 12:43 a.m.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said investigators believe the driver was lured to a vacant apartment in the courtyard of the Raymond Rosen Homes complex on the 2300 block of Edgley Street.

"All three spent shell casings were just a few inches away from where this victim was lying on the ground in the courtyard, which is an indication that the shooter or shooters were standing very, very close to the victim since the spent shell casings, all three, were just inches away from the victim," Small said.

Investigators believe the shooting was targeted and are working to determine who placed the order and why.

Police Search for Suspects Following Deadly Shooting

According to Small, the order consisted of three pizzas.

Surveillance footage reportedly shows two individuals wearing dark-colored clothing. They followed the driver as he walked away from his vehicle and toward the apartment complex.

However, investigators said the actual shooting was not captured on any of the available surveillance cameras.

Police have launched a homicide investigation. They continue to review footage from the surrounding area in an effort to piece together the events leading up to the killing.

No arrests have been announced.

Investigators are also working with the pizza restaurant to trace the phone number used to place the order. They are working to determine whether it has any connection to the shooting.

The food order was later discovered untouched inside the vacant apartment.

Based on the evidence gathered so far, detectives believe the driver completed the delivery. He was then ambushed outside the apartment complex.

Authorities are offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case as the investigation continues.
