Phil Collins Reveals Why He May Never Record New Music Again

I wondered what a new Phil Collins record would sound like in 2025. Obviously, you can't help but adore "In The Air Tonight." Additionally, "Easy Lover" and "Another Day in Paradise" remain sensational to this day. However, they're also indicative of a very specific era in the 80s. What does he sound like creatively all these years later? Unfortunately, we'll likely never know due to circumstances out of his control.

Recently, Collins spoke with Mojo magazine where he talks about his health status. After his last tour where he could perform while sat down, it seemed like he couldn't do anything super labor intensive. However, it hasn't gotten much better, to the point where Phil isn't recording at all. The physical toll remains far too much and it affects his desire to even want to try. "I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens. But I'm not hungry for it anymore," he explains. "The thing is, I've been sick, I mean, very sick."

Phil Collins' Sickness and Physical Ailments Stop Him From Wanting to Record

A series of different injuries have made things extremely difficult for Phil Collins over the years. First, a spinal injury in 2007 severely damages his nerves and drastically affects how he walks, if at all. Then, ten years later, he suffered a head injury. Consequently, when it came time for his final tour, Collins couldn't work the drums at all and his son had to take over.

In a documentary interview captured by Variety, Phil reacts to this sobering reality with absolute devastation. "It's still kind of sinking in a bit. I've spent all my life playing drums. To suddenly not be able to do that is a shock," Collins candidly admits. "If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks, then I'll have a crack at it. But I just feel like I've used up my air miles."
