Collins Was in Bad Physical Condition Two Years Ago
A little more than two years ago, noted The Sunday Times, the singer found that his alcohol problem had gotten badly out of control. In fact, he was in a Swiss hospital in pretty dire shape. Collins' longtime manager summoned his five children just in case the worst happened. Matthew, Lily, Nicolas, Joely, and Simon rushed to be with their ailing dad. "Because there were some decisions to be made about 'Do we keep Phil on life support?' kind of thing," Collins somberly remembered.
His Body Seemed To Be Shutting Down Alarmingly
Phil Collins talks about that life-and-death time with utter clarity and candor. "My kidneys were packing up, my organs were just seizing up. People were coming to say goodbye. But I don't remember them coming. I didn't have no idea this was going on. They were all worried that they wouldn't see me again. It could all have gone so terribly wrong."
Per the outlet, he had been in the hospital in November 2023 for alcohol-related issues. Collins was released just prior to Christmas, however, he evidently needed to be brought back. This time, he was in intensive care. He was actually hospitalized for seven months.
Phil Collins now recognizes that he was very fortunate indeed to have survived such a close call. He declared, "I was very lucky to have come out of that. Needless to say, I haven't had a drink since."
The Singer's Bout With Serious Illness Apparently Brought His Family Closer
When Collins was much better, he and his family spent some quality time together at a hotel. It sounds like it was special and meaningful to all of them. Collins shared with the outlet that daughter Lily was weeping with emotion. He says that she confided, "I never thought I'd get these moments." Of that get-together, Collins mused, "We had an incredible time. I can't overemphasise how fantastic it was."
Per People, Phil Collins has confronted many health challenges. "The star has dealt with nerve damage, knee problems, kidney issues and type 2 diabetes." Nevertheless, he is definitely hanging in there.
