People has officially named country star Blake Shelton their 2017 "Sexiest Man Alive."
The resounding question coming from the internet seems to be "Why him?" The editors of People have an answer for you.
"It's been a stressful year for America. And so when it came time for our annual ritual of silliness -- crowning 2017's Sexiest Man Alive --we looked for a guy who would have some fun with it and show us a really good time," People's Editorial Director, Jess Cagle writes.
In a choice that People acknowledges "feels a little strange," this year's selection seems to be more about emotions than looks, which is kind of refreshing.
"This year's list of sexy men is full of men like him--men who use their gifts and their talents to make the world a better place," Cagle writes.
Shelton's popularity extends beyond the country genre. He's been a regular fixture of NBC's hit show The Voice since its inception in the U.S. Additionally, he's friends with The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon, and makes regular appearances on the show.
