Pearl Jam Frontman Reveals Terrifying Experience Riding Horses with Bruce Springsteen

Pear Jam's Eddie Vedder recently detailed a scary experience he had when riding horses with Bruce Springsteen

When you think of horse riding, there are one of two images that will likely come into your mind. The first is a leisurely, scenic picture, where everything is relaxing, and the horse's movement is somewhat therapeutic. And the other is more fun, more dangerous, travelling at speed with a horse galloping through a woodland or field.

It's the latter of those two mental pictures that best matches Eddie Vedder's experience. The Pearl Jam lead singer recently discussed a terrifying ordeal he experienced when horseback riding with rock legend Bruce Springsteen.

"I'm terrified of horses, and that ride with Bruce did not help anything at all," Vedder said in an appearance on 'The Howard Stern Show.' "I was trying to act not terrified. I was like, 'I got this...' You know, don't let the shark know you're scared."

Unfortunately for Vedder, it turned out he had every reason to be fearful of horses, at least he did in that specific moment.

"For whatever reason, my horse just took off. And I'm kind of headed off the trail into like this forest of trees. I don't know what is happening," Vedder continued. "...What I remember is like surfing the horse and looking, 'Where am I going to jump? Where am I going to jump? You know, everybody's helping, yelling stuff. Pull right, pull left, and I can't see a clear space to jump."

Eddie Vedder's Horse Eventually Stopped Running

If you're not experienced at riding horses, being on the back of one that's decided to go rogue must be a terrifying experience. Fortunately for Vedder, his horse did eventually slow down and come to a stop.

"Anyways, it stopped. And then everyone was a little mystified. Patty was like, 'That's very odd. That's very odd.' He might be barn sour. And then, damn it, the horse didn't do it again," Vedder explained.

So, it's understandable why Vedder is unlikely to be purchasing any horses throughout his lifetime. One bad experience is usually enough to sour you for life. After all, falling from a horse can be incredibly dangerous. He's lucky that he was able to escape the situation unscathed.
