Soap Opera Icon Dies from Sudden Heart Attack

Soap star Patrick Muldoon, known for Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place, has died aged 57 following a heart attack.

A beloved soap opera star has died suddenly at the age of 57.

Patrick Muldoon, best known for his roles in Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place, passed away on Sunday, April 19.

According to Deadline, the cause of death was a heart attack.

Muldoon's sister, Shana Muldoon-Zappa, shared details of the tragic incident with TMZ.

She said her brother had been at home in Beverly Hills on Sunday morning. He was drinking coffee with his girlfriend before going to take a shower.

"His girlfriend decided to check on him after he was taking too long and found him unconscious on the bathroom floor, Shanna said," the report stated.

"Paramedics rushed over and tried to revive Patrick, according to Shana, but there was nothing anyone could do."

Known affectionately as "Bobo" to his loved ones, Muldoon is survived by his partner Miriam Rothbart; his parents, Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr.; his sister and brother-in-law, Shana and Ahmet Zappa; and their children, Halo and Arrow Zappa.

His family described him as "endlessly generous — with his poetry, his humor, and his unmistakable presence."

Career Spanned Soap Operas, Film, and Music

Muldoon enjoyed a diverse career across television, film, and music.

He rose to fame playing Austin Reed on Days of Our Lives from 1992 to 1995, later reprising the role between 2011 and 2012.

He also gained recognition as villain Richard Hart on Melrose Place, appearing between seasons three and five.

On the big screen, Muldoon appeared in several films, including the 1997 sci-fi classic Starship Troopers, where he played Zander Barcalow.

His upcoming project, Dirty Hands, a crime thriller, is set for release later in 2026.

Beyond acting, Muldoon was deeply passionate about music. He served as the lead singer of the band The Sleeping Masses and was frequently seen with his guitar.

He also made an appearance in Daughtry's 2013 music video for "Waiting for Superman."

In addition to acting, he worked behind the scenes as an executive producer on multiple projects, including The Tribes of Palos Verdes, Arkansas, and Marlowe. As well as The Card Counter, The Dreadful, and Riff Raff.

Most recently, he was attached as an executive producer on Kockroach, starring Chris Hemsworth, Taron Egerton, and Zazie Beetz. The movie is currently in production.

Muldoon attended Loyola High School before graduating from the University of Southern California in 1991. He also played tight end for the USC Trojans football team.
