It's always best to check your luggage for banned items before going through airport security, you never know when you might have accidentally forgotten to take your hand grenade out.

Most people get told off for forgetting to empty their liquids before trying to board a plane. Sometimes someone will have some tweezers taken off them, or maybe a small, dangerous-looking pair of nail scissors. However, as one man made his way through LaGuardia International Airport in Queens, security found an entire, real-life, hand grenade in his luggage.
The man wasn't planning anything nefarious with the grenade in his luggage. According to him, he had simply picked it up as a souvenir while on his holidays. The weapon was sold by a war museum he had visited.
He would have struggled to do any damage with it. As he explained to the shocked security staff, it was an inert grenade. This means that it had been hollowed out, and was at no risk of explosion. However, taking a hand grenade in airplane luggage is still illegal. He could have easily used it to hold up the plane.
No Charges For The Luggage Hand Grenade Man
The accident was entirely innocent, according to the man. Security is not looking to press any changes, and they let him board his flight, albeit without a hand grenade in his luggage this time. They confiscated the decommissioned weapon, and have kept it for themselves.
The hand grenade will now be used by TSA staff as a training prop. It's certainly a good one. But, you have to wonder what the man was thinking trying to board a plane with an explosive like that. There was no way he was ever going to get it past security. He was just lucky that the security decided to go easy on him. I have seen people given hell for a lot worse in airports.
In this case, he was let off without any punishment, and the plane was able to depart on time. However, I think the man may be a bit more hesitant about trying to smuggle any kind of grenade in his luggage in future. He got lucky this time.
