Parents Of College Student Who Disappeared In Dominican Republic Want To Declare Her Dead

Sudiksha Konanki was last seen walking on the beach at Riu Republica Resort in Punta Cana on March 6. Her fun trip with friends turned daunting fast when she disappeared. Now that she has been missing for 12 days, the parents of the college student want to declare her dead.

The 20-year-old college student traveled to the Dominican Republic for spring break with some friends. According to People Magazine, Konanki was "last seen in the early hours of the morning on Thursday, March 6, while walking on a beach at Riu Republica Resort in Punta Cana." Video surveillance cameras caught the group walking on the beach around 4:15 am local time.

However, after some time the majority of the group left. Leaving Konanki and just one other person on the beach. Later, her clothes were found on a lounge chair on the beach, but her body has yet to be discovered. While she was initially thought to have drowned in the ocean, Loudon County authorities have their speculations.

All of the friends that were traveling with Konanki were questioned. Additionally, the police discovered a person of interest, Joshua Riibe, who was also questioned. However, he has not been accused or charged with anything at this time.

Parents Of College Student Who Disappeared Want To Declare Her Dead

Konaki's parents have reached out to both Dominican and local authorities. They have expressed their desire to declare their daughter dead. Many may wonder why they would wish to declare her dead. After all, with no body would you not want to hold onto the hope that she is alive still?

While that line of thinking makes sense, these parents of the college student who disappeared are just seeking closure. People shares that they told officials "they are prepared to comply with any necessary formalities or documentation" in regards to this case.

However that they are requesting a declaration of death for their daughter. Her parents shared, "Initiating this process will allow our family to begin the grieving process and address matters related to her absence." Although the investigation is still ongoing, Konanki's parents reiterated the statement that they had "no suspicion of foul play" in regards to their daughter's disappearance. Hopefully, this family finds the closure that they need.
