Last week, a Pabst Blue Ribbon truck was stolen from the company's distribution center in Montclair, California. Then, an hour after that incident occurred, a "purported subcontracting company" used fake documents to drive off with even more beer. Investigators believe the two incidents are connected.
There is now $70,000 of beer out in the streets, and the brewery is actively working to get it back.
How Did This Start?
Pabst posted a picture of one of its trucks on Instagram on Aug. 21. It was accompanied by a plea for anyone with information on the stolen brew.
"STOLEN - 40,000lbs of beer," the caption read. "To the thief: we don't fault you for wanting to brag to your friends how much PBR you have, we just wish you obtained it the honorable way."
What follows is a warning straight out of the 1996 film Ransom.
"Pabst is officially starting the clock now," it read. "You have exactly 18 days and 44 minutes to return our truckload of beer, no questions asked. Leading up to that time, we will be offering a reward to anyone who can help us solve this mystery.
"P.s. this is real and we are deadly serious."
The CEO of Pabst Has Now Made a Statement Regarding the Stolen Beer
On Sep. 2, Greig DeBow, the CEO of Pabst, went on TikTok to explain what the company is doing to recover the 1,602 stolen cases of beer.
He first offered a sarcastic "kudos" to the thieves, saying he's "sure they look cool with a garage full of PBR."
"We want it back by September 9th," he added. "If you don't bring it back, well, we have no choice. We're going to offer up to $20,000 for any new information leading to the lost goods."
The clip's caption includes a legal disclaimer clarifying DeBow's offer.
"Any new information provided prior to the September 9th deadline that leads to the successful recovery of the stolen PBR will be eligible for up to $5,000," it reads. "After the September 9th deadline, the reward will be up to $20,000. Please email [email protected] or DM us if you have any information."
