A tragic accident on the FDR Drive in Manhattan threw the bodies of a Tesla driver and her passenger from the vehicle as it burst into flames

The Tesla smashed at high speed into the guardrail between the roads. This flipped the vehicle and threw the two passengers from the car. The Telsa then burst into flames. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger was taken into emergency care and is currently in stable condition.
Pictures from the accident show parts of the crashed Tesla scattered across the road. Little is left of the car but a burnt-out shell. Emergency services fought back the flames, but the roaring inferno destroyed everything but the frame of the vehicle.
The northbound FDR Drive lanes were closed for miles as fire services fought the flames of the Tesla. large pieces of the car can be seen across the lanes of the road.

In this case, the two passengers were thrown from the car. Tragically, the unnamed woman died at the scene. However, the 26-year-old man who was also thrown from the vehicle is in stable condition. He was taken to the nearby New York Presbyterian Hospital.
It is perhaps a blessing that he was thrown from the flipping Tesla. Being trapped in the burning car would have surely been a death sentence. There have been several cases in which passengers have been unable to open Tesla doors after a collision. In one or two cases this has resulted in the death of the passengers as the cars burnt.
Telsa advertises their cars as some of the safest on the market. However, situations like these do raise a few concerns. It is unclear what caused the Tesla crash in Manhattan or if it was speeding, but an investigation is underway.
