According to a report by Sky News, the incident occurred at the Notre-Dame-de-Toutes-Aides around Midday on Thursday. Teachers reportedly overpowered the knife-wielding 15-year-old student before police arrived at the school. Authorities have not revealed the identity of the suspect. The student who died has also not been identified by police, although the outlet reports that they were female.
Per France 24, the student stabbed four students before staff subdued him. While many details regarding the incident remain unclear, French police have ruled out a terrorist motive.
According to a recently updated report by the Daily Mail, local media have identified the suspect as Justin P. He reportedly walked up to the second floor of the school and stabbed one student. Then, he went back downstairs and knifed three others. The student Justin reportedly stabbed first is the girl who died.
Victims Who Survived The Stabbing Are In Critical Condition
The Daily Mail explains that two of the other victims are reportedly in a critical condition in the hospital. When police arrived at the school, the suspect allegedly shouted "shoot me in the head" at armed officers. Authorities restrained Justin P in handcuffs and escorted him from the building. The outlet reports that he was wearing a bike helmet with his face covered by a balaclava. Authorities reportedly found two blades, "including a hunting knife," next to the attacker.
French news outlet BFM says that the 15-year-old was not known to authorities. BFM also alleges that his mailbox sent a document to all students at the school before the stabbing, painting a 'very dark picture of our society.' The document is reportedly confusing and is roughly 20 pages long.
A classmate of the suspect told the outlet that he "was a bit weird" since the beginning of the year. Another student reportedly said, "It's absolutely shocking. We're usually very quiet, there's never been any problems like that, even minor problems." A parent of a student at the school described the establishment as "quiet and correct at all levels."
