The ESPN host shared on The Pat McAfee Show yesterday, July 14, that he didn't believe that his invite to the couple's nuptials was real. It took some extra convincing from Kelce himself for McAfee to respond to the RSVP.
Pat McAfee Thought His Invite to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's Wedding Was Fake
McAfee shared that his invite came electronically, so he suspected that Swift and Kelce's request for him to attend their wedding on July 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York City was fake.
"They were sending emails, and I might have been the last person to respond, to be honest, because I thought I was getting scammed," he said.
He then began receiving texts sharing details about the event, including a link. He deleted the message. But a week later, he received another one. McAfee truly believed he was "getting phished."
"I'm like, yeah, right," said McAfee. "I just got done with a McAfee [security] deal, and they're like, this is the easiest way to scam someone."
Kelce Had to Step In
After deleting another message, McAfee then received a message from the groom himself.
McAfee said, "I think I might have been the last person to respond, honestly. Travis had to text me and say like, 'Hey. This is a real text.' I'm like, 'What an honor, thank you so much, dude.' I did not think that was gonna happen."
McAfee said his online invite included some clues from Swift about the ceremony.
"It was awesome. Everything was so well done. And remember, Taylor is like the queen of Easter eggs," he said. "Once I got in there, I was really excited."
The 39-year-old McAfee attended Swift and Kelce's wedding with his wife, Samantha. He said on the July 13 episode of his show that the event was "the most spectacular evening I've ever been a part of."
He added, "The football world coming together with Hollywood and Nashville ... It was the greatest night of all time... My wife and I had a blast."
