According to AP News, the incident took place at Kirtland Airforce Base in Albuquerque around 2 am on Saturday. Per a brief statement by the Kirtland Airforce Base from February 22, an incident led to an 'off-base pursuit' that resulted in one Airman losing their life while another was injured.

"The Air Force Office of Special Investigations, in coordination with the FBI and Albuquerque Police Department, are investigating the incident," the statement reads. The press release also stresses there is no danger to the public. Few other details were provided, and the press release states that this is to maintain the integrity of the investigation.

Per a report by the Daily Mail, the injured Airman suffered a gunshot wound to the hand. Emergency services took him to the University of New Mexico Medical Center, where he was later discharged. Military officials reportedly stressed that the incident was not a terrorist attack, nor was the shooter 'an outsider.'

The Air Force Base Reveals The Shooter's Identity In An Updated Statement

The Air Force base shed some light on the incident the following day. However, we still don't know what happened prior to the shooting. In an updated press release, the Kirtland Air Force Base explains, 'Airman Basic Brion Teel-Scott, 27, of Bordentown N.J. assigned to the 377th Security Forces Squadron died February 22, 2025, after fleeing an attempted detention.'

The shooting occurred outside the Truman Gate. Per the press release, Colonel Michael Power said, "Losing a member of your team is never easy, but the circumstances of this incident make it that much harder. Additionally, we are ensuring our injured defender, the Wingmen of both members and our base community receive the best possible care and support."

The incident at Kirtland Air Base comes less than a month after an incident at a Base in Eison. An F-35 fighter jet experienced an 'in-flight malfunction' leading to a rather costly crash. The disaster was caught on camera as the plane smashed into the ground in a ball of fire. Fortunately, the pilot safely ejected from the plane and floated to safety with a parachute.
