Olympian In A Coma After Gnarly Crash

Olympian athletes are world-renowned for competing at the absolute highest level in their chosen sports or activities. A big part of becoming a professional athlete is thousands of hours of training, which can be dangerous depending on what it's for.

Tereza Nova, 26, who participated in the Beijing Olympics in 2022's skiing events, had a horrific crash during a training session in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, on Friday. According to a press release translated from Czech, Nova suffered a serious fall during a downhill training exercise on the Kandahar ski slope. The release explains that Nova suffered a serious head injury, and emergency services transported her to a nearby hospital where "she is currently undergoing detailed examinations and is under the supervision of top doctors."

The press release explains that doctors put the Olympian in a medically induced coma on Saturday. Nova will be kept in this state for 'as long as doctors deem appropriate.' She also underwent an operation to reduce brain swelling. A spokesperson for Tereza, Tomas Haisl, said, "We wish her many strengths and early healing. We keep our fingers crossed and send all our strength."

According to the press release, Nova was training for upcoming World Cup races on the weekend. Considering the severity of her injuries, she will no longer be participating in the event.

The Olympian Competed In Multiple Events In Beijing 2022

Per her profile on the official Olympics website, Tereza Nova competed in four events during the 2022 games in Beijing. Nova participated in four different Alpine Skiing events. She placed 33rd in the Women's 'Super-G.' According to the Olympics, Super-G is shorthand for 'Super Giant Slalom,' combining downhill speed and precision slalom turns.

Nova also placed 28th in the Women's Downhill skiing event. Finally, she earned 14th in both Women's Alpine Combined and Mixed Team Parallel. The latest post on her Instagram profile from five days ago has dozens of comments from wellwishers. Several posts in both Czech and English wish the Olympian a speedy recovery. A comment with several upvotes from kellym05 reads, "I truly hope you recover from this. I'm so sorry for the pain you and your family are going through right now." Many others share a similar sentiment.
