The 14-year-old from Yonkers admitted he used homemade bombs in at least two other explosions around the city. One of them caused a portable toilet inside Bregano Park to break into pieces last week.

The Portable Toilet Explosion Shook Up a Neighborhood

As the New York Post reports, authorities discovered materials used to manufacture explosives at the suspect's home. They took him into custody without incident.

In a press release, police said that the teen "admitted to constructing the device used in the incident and to being responsible for several other explosions in the area over the last several weeks."

He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment.

Neighbors said they had heard the explosions for weeks. They reportedly felt the rumble from the portable toilet blast, which occurred on April 6.

"I was sitting in the living room, and I went, 'Oh my god.' The whole floor shook. And then my neighbors, you know, and everybody were just talking about it," said local resident Maria Sigismondo at the time.

Another resident added, "At first, we thought it was like fireworks. Then it got louder and bigger, but last night was really big."

The FBI Was Brought In

The portable toilet explosions and other incidents prompted three investigative teams to work together. The Yonkers Police Department Intelligence Unit, the Westchester County Police Hazardous Devices Unit, and the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force joined forces to catch the teen.

Thankfully, authorities say that no injuries were reported because of the homemade bombs.
