No-Food-Coloring Green Beer

No Food Coloring Green Beer

Want a festive green beer but without all the food coloring? Try it with wheatgrass instead for a flavor boost and some antioxidants to boot!
Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes
Servings 1 beer

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle beer
  • 1 tbs wheatgrass juice or powder (Use more as needed)

Instructions

  • Add the wheatgrass to the bottom of a glass.
  • Pour the beer over the wheatgrass, to about the halfway mark. The pouring action and the carbonation of the beer should stir things for you.
  • If you're happy with how the flavor and color is turning out, continue pouring the beer. If you'd like more concentration, add a little more wheatgrass before continuing to pour the beer.

Notes

Wheatgrass has a very summery vegetal taste, very much like what you'd expect when you hear "grass." It pairs well with most lighter beers, especially hoppy ones, if you're an IPA fan, clean and crisp ones, and sometimes even the fruitier ones.

If you want to play around with other flavors and colors while still avoiding food coloring, try using matcha tea powder or spirulina—or pretty much any high-chlorophyl plant based powder or juice.
