According to El Financiero, the bodies were found on a highway in the San José Mihuatlán municipality in Puebla on Sunday, March 2. There, an abandoned vehicle was found and, next to it, a bloodied tarp that was covering several dismembered bodies. Four bodies were found stuffed inside the vehicle's trunk, while five bodies were covered by the tarp, according to Periodico Central.

A bag was found at the scene with eight pairs of hands, with an additional pair found alongside the bodies stuffed in the vehicle's trunk. Furthermore, the bodies had bullet wounds and displayed signs of torture. Following the gruesome discovery, police have identified eight of the nine victims, all reported missing in February:

  • Angie Lizeth P. G., 29.
  • Leslie N. T., 21.
  • Brenda Mariel N.
  • Jacqueline Ailet N.
  • Noemi Yamileth N.
  • Raul Emmanuel N.
  • Rubén Antonio N.
  • Rolando Armando N.

The unidentified ninth victim, a male, wasn't reported missing. Additionally, El Financiero reports that one additional female student was found after being reported missing. Said student was originally reported missing alongside three other Tlaxcala students who have yet to be found.

Investigations

Currently, there have been no arrests or suspects named as part of the investigation. Reportedly, the abandoned vehicle was filmed driving along an Atilxco road on February 24. Said road is located approximately 90 miles from where the dismembered students were found, as per Periodico Central.

"So far, I cannot offer information. There are lines of investigation, but I cannot reveal them due to confidentiality," Idamis Pastor Betancourt, head of the State Attorney General's Office in Puebla, said during a press conference. "All relevant investigations are being carried out. When we have a response and the investigation is complete, we will be in a position to provide more information."

While the dismembered bodies were identified as missing Tlaxcala students, several reports state that they were all part of a local criminal organization called "Los Zacapoaxtlas." According to NVI Noticias, the victims could have perpetrated a series of robberies throughout February. Moreover, said outlet claims faux cops allegedly picked up the victims and later executed them at San José Mihuatlán.
