Nine Cars Crash Into Maryland Homeowner's Yard in 2 Years

Imagine if a car came flying off the road and into your yard. Then try to picture that happening over and over. That situation has unfortunately befallen an irked Maryland homeowner. And she is getting pretty disgusted. Per CBS News, Krista Cantafio "told CBS News Baltimore this was the ninth time a vehicle has crashed on her property in the last two years. Her home is off a sharp curve in Catonsville, and she said the county has yet to help put an end to it."

On Monday, July 6, a car reportedly almost struck her Kenwood Avenue home. Cantafio says she has had to replace her mailbox over and over because of the errant vehicles. In seeming exasperation and likely exhaustion, she shared, "I'm just tired of cleaning up crashes. My grass is gone, I have had to replace the mailbox several times, I have had to go to court, it's been a lot."

She claims to have tried using rumble strips, traffic cones, and rocks to block cars from entering her property. All sadly to no avail at this time.

Getting Speed Bumps Installed Is a Process That Takes Time

Per the outlet, Krista Cantafio also approached the Department of Public Works and Transportation in Maryland's Baltimore County. "The department said the next steps will be collecting signatures of support from neighbors along the road," which is eligible for the deterrent bumps to be put in.

Following a traffic study, a required number of signatures from nearby residents must be gathered. Furthermore, after that, adequate funding has to be available. So there are many significant hurdles to be negotiated. Then maybe Cantafio can finally get the speed bumps that might solve her problem.

The Situation Has Become Dangerous

Cantafio told WMAR-2 News, "I never have my daughter get the mail. I'm always looking over my shoulder." Per the outlet, the damage to her property has already been substantial. "Cantafio has said the repeated crashes have destroyed mailboxes, trees, bushes and landscaping, costing her thousands of dollars in cleanup and repairs."

Police are reportedly looking into the situation and the circumstances.

However, a much bigger threat is that someone in her yard could eventually be hit by a car going off the road.
