Nicole Kidman has had a difficult year. Among a full schedule thanks to the movies she's been promoting, terrible news struck the actress as her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, died in September at 84. Months after her mother's passing, Kidman has further opened up about the event, revealing the last words that her mother told her.

The "Moulin Rouge" star talked about her mother on CBS Sunday Morning. "The final words my mama said to me, I was gonna get on a plane, and she said 'Maybe wait a minute, because you just need to take care of yourself, Nicky'," Nicole Kidman said.
Understandably, Kidman took what her mother told her very seriously. "So, I'm doing that more, and I say that to other people in the world. Particularly women," Kidman continued. "I think we tend not to care of ourselves. We take care of everybody else but the last person is here."
This change will also apply to her life as a mother-of-four, Kidman said, who wants to be around her girls for "a long time." "They're amazing girls and I'm lucky to have them;" Kidman said. "So taking care of myself means so that I can take care of them."
A Mother's Goodbye
The news became public as Nicole Kidman missed her appearance at the Venice Film Festival on September 7. Halina Rejin, "Babygirl" director, read a statement written by Kidman herself at the festival. "Today I arrived in Venice to find out shortly after, that my beautiful, brave mother Janelle Ann Kidman has just passed," Kidman said in the statement.
"I am in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her, she shaped me, she guided me and she made me," the statement continues. "I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina, the collision of life and art is heart-breaking, and my heart is broken."
The actress' next appearance, according to Page Six, was at the Balenciaga fashion show on September 30, followed by an appearance at the "Lioness" season 2 premiere. There, Kidman became emotional while speaking about her mother. "I wish my mama was here," Kidman said at the time. "That'd be the one thing I'd say. Everything is great with work but I wish my mama was here."
