Based on the statement released by the franchise on Thursday (October 15), it appears that the Eagles' medical staff was aware of the blood clot. Prior to the star taking the field against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London last Sunday (October 11).

Eagles Staff Cleared Hurts to Play With Blood Clot

Per the team's statement, Hurts told trainers that he needed treatment for his calf. He said that he had felt discomfort in the ligament. After being cleated in their Week 3 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

After being added to the practice report, Hurts went in for a precautionary ultrasound. The ultrasound revealed that he had a "superficial blood clot" in his calf.

"Out of an abundance of caution, an ultrasound was performed on Saturday following the team's flight to London and walkthrough. The ultrasound revealed a superficial blood clot," the statement reads.

Even more bizarre, after being made aware of the blood clot, Hurt was cleared by the medical staff to suit up for the Jaguars.

"Our medical staff and doctors in London reviewed the results. We concluded that activity and mobility were important and that Jalen could safely play," the statement adds. "Doctors recommended a follow-up ultrasound within 72 hours of the game and the return flight to Philadelphia."

Fans React to Eagles Decision

Of course, many NFL fans were in an uproar over the star QB being cleared to play.

"Oh wow, you can't mess around with blood clots. Prayers for Jalen Hurts! This is bigger than ball," one person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"Prayers to Jalen Hurts. That's really scary and crazy that they let him play with a blood clot," a second user chimed in.

"This situation with Jalen Hurts feels like it should be the last straw. And lead to changes. Philadelphia's staff has consistently botched injuries and now something far more serious," a third user remarked.

The Eagles noted that Hurts underwent another ultrasound on Wednesday (October 14). And while the ultrasound "revealed movement in the small blood clot, " they ultimately decided to rule him out of their Week 6 matchup. So that they can "determine the appropriate course of treatment."
