Jacobs Sues Police to Prevent Release of Domestic Incident Video
According to a Thursday (October 15) report from ESPN, the Packers star is bringing legal action into the fray. Jacobs has filed a civil lawsuit against the police department. Per the report, the running back is looking to obtain a "permanent injunction," which will restrict access to the records from the altercation that happened at his home on May 23.
The charges stem from an incident between the star running back and a woman at his home. The altercation began after the woman looked through his phone. The woman found out that the Packers star was talking to other women. She alleged that once she saw the messages, Jacobs grabbed her arm. She threw her to the ground in the garage, causing her to hit her head.
The football star's attorneys, Clarence F. Duchac III, David Z. Chesnoff and Richard A. Schonfeld, said that the filing "is an effort to assist" the woman in the altercation. The same woman filed a restraining order against the Hobart/Lawrence Police Department on Wednesday (October 14) to block the release of the records.
Per the lawsuit obtained by the outlet, the woman is seeking "to protect her privacy, dignity, personal security, emotional well-being, and ability to participate safely in the criminal justice process."
Jacobs also noted that only redacting the names of the faces of the individuals involved in the altercation "would not adequately protect" the identities. He and his lawyers also argued that advanced technology such as artificial intelligence could be used to uncover their identities.
Jacobs has been placed on the NFL Commissioner's exempt list while they conduct an investigation into the incident. They have also been trying to obtain the video to include in their final decision.
