NFL RedZone star Scott Hanson had NFL fans questioning reality on January 26. Hanson had reposted a graphic from the NFL page, noting that the Super Bowl contestants had been determined all the way back in September.
Essentially, Hanson was telling the world that the NFL was scripted. Or was he?
When speaking with TMZ, Hanson was quick to stress that he was joking. His post was nothing more than a satirical take on the belief that all sports follow a script.
"It's true, it's real ... It's just awful, awful funny," Hanson said. "That is some weird, eerie-type stuff."
The problem is, 4.1 million people saw his post. And while most would have understood the sarcastic nature, there's a chance that there's a subset of fans that now believe everything they're watching on the gridiron is predetermined.
Professional football is not professional wrestling. There isn't a script. The best teams have to earn their spot on the biggest stage in the world.
It wouldn't be a surprise if Hanson were reprimanded for his post. After all, he is an employee of the NFL. Hopefully, his latest comments reach a similarly sized audience, and we can turn our attention back to the upcoming Super Bowl event.
President Trump Will Not Be at This Year's Super Bowl
While we're talking about the Super Bowl... President Donald Trump has confirmed that he will not attend this year's event.
"It's just too far away. I would. I've [gotten] great hands [at] the Super Bowl. They like me," he explained. "I would go if, you know, it was a little bit shorter."
This year's Super Bowl is set to take place in Santa Clara, California. That's quite a distance from Washington, D.C. As such, the President will likely watch the game on TV like most of us.
And, just to clear this up: if your team doesn't win, that isn't a sign that Hanson was originally telling the truth. It might feel that way, but in reality, the other team likely won the battles within the margins, which gave them the advantage throughout the game.
It hurts to hear, but it's a cold fact of sports.
