Police in Carmel, Indiana allegedly found marijuana in the former college standout's possession earlier in October. According to court records obtained by ESPN.

Report Alleges Colts QB Was Charged With Marijuana Possession

Per an affidavit obtained by the outlet, Richardson was allegedly stopped by a patrol officer who had questions about his car's registration on October 12. The officer alleged that he smelled a strong marijuana aroma coming from the quarterback's car. Richardson allegedly told the officer that he had smoked marijuana in his car because he did not want to smoke it inside his home, around his children.

It was at that point that the Colts quarterback was instructed to step out of the vehicle to allow officers to execute a search of his Dodge Charger. The report alleges that officers found a "small amount" of marijuana. In addition, 500-milligram THC-infused gummy candy was found in the vehicle's glove compartment.

Per the report, the star quarterback was not arrested. However, he was hit with a citation for having an expired registration. The report also adds that he received a summons for marijuana possession.

The charges were officially filed in Indiana on Monday (October 19), with a bench trial date set for January 4.

Colts Issue Statement Regarding Richardson Report

The Colts issued a statement following the filing of the charges.

"We are aware of the situation involving Anthony Richardson and are currently gathering additional information," the Colts said in a statement (via ESPN). "We will have no further comment at this time."

Richardson was drafted by the Colts with the 4th overall pick in 2023. But after a rocky start to the 2024 season, he was benched and replaced by veteran quarterback Joe Flacco. Richardson admitted that he was hurt about the decision but felt that it was also a learning opportunity.

"Of course it hurts," Richardson told the media at the time (via CBS Sports). "As a competitor, definitely don't wanna be told that you're not the guy anymore for the upcoming week. But it's all good. Using the moment as an opportunity to grow and just learn from my mistakes."
