It's no secret that NFL franchises have security teams to prevent their most prized assets -- the players. But the integrity of the security became a topic of discussion during the offseason.
Earlier this summer, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car crash that left him with significant injuries. Shanahan publicly said that he was at fault for the accident. Eagles Security Head Investigated Over Podcast Comments
Former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho recently dove into the saga. On a recent episode of his podcast Speakeasy, the ex-linebacker explained that he was involved in a similar situation when he was still playing. Acho explained that he rear-ended another vehicle and immediately contacted a member of the security team to advise him on the next steps to take. And what he said was the true shocker.
"I [contacted] one of our security people," Acho said. "He says, 'Acho, when the cop shows up, send the cop away. I'm going to send you another cop. And that other cop is going to say it wasn't your fault. It was their fault.' I was like, 'Wait, they do that?'"
Acho said that he did just as the security guard instructed him to. And everything unfolded the way that he explained to him on the phone.
"Our head of security had to offer them two home tickets plus signed jerseys," Acho said, "and then they were like, 'Oh, no, we're fine.'"
