The head coach of the 49ers, Kyle Shanahan, has been injured in a terrifying crash. As reported by the New York Post, the NFL coach was involved with a collision with an SUV on July 14.
The collision happened near his Northern California home. He was rushed to hospital to be treated, before being released later that day to recover. The other driver ended up being uninjured.
And the injuries he suffered were pretty terrifying. He was left with a broken nose, three broken ribs and a broken hand. The injuries left him needing 40 stitches in the face.
It turns out that Shanahan never mentioned the injuries, nor the crash, to his team until Tuesday, July 21.
Doctors have explained that the NFL head coach is recovering well. But, given the severe nature of his injuries, he's not expected to be back until at least his concussion has gone away. When that will be is unknown - and the 49ers haven't given any concrete dates as of yet.
Police were cagey about details regarding the crash. No one was given a citation, but that's about all we know at the moment. The cause of the crash and who was at fault is unknown at this time.
Palo Alto Lt. Nicholas Martinez explained, "Consistent with our standard release of information procedures in such cases, we do not release information regarding the cause of the collision, or which party may have been at fault."

The 49ers Released a Statement Following the Crash
The 49ers explained that "Coach Shanahan will participate in team activities on a limited basis at the start of training camp while he recovers."
They added that assistant coach Chris Foerster as well as other 49ers coodinators will step in while Shanahan recovers from the crash.
Shanahan has not been ruled out of September 11's season opener between the 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams. The opener will take place in Melbourne, Australia. It will be their first regular-season NFL contest taking place in the country.
We hope that his recovery is quick - those injuries are quite severe. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family as he gets better.
