New details have emerged regarding the car crash involving San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.

The 49ers announced the head coach's car crash in a statement on July 25, nearly two weeks after it happened. Shanahan suffered a broken nose and hand, fractured ribs, and a facial laceration requiring 40 stitches. He also had a concussion and reportedly nearly lost an eye in the crash.
On a recent episode of PFT Live, NFL analyst Chris Simms said that Shanahan's wife shared pictures of the coach with him after the July 14 car accident.
"When you first see it, and it's fresh, and some of the cuts are still wide open, I mean, it's jarring," Simms said. "He was this close to maybe losing his right eye."
Simms did not discuss the specifics of the accident. He did reveal that the other driver in the accident was a woman.
"[Shanahan] was emotional about it. Because he realized how close it was to being just a complete, you know, utter disaster," added Simms. "It could have been a lot worse. You know, he's very concerned about the woman he got in the accident with and how she is and handling that situation. So there's just a lot there. And I think it was a lot for him to process."
NFL Coach Admits He Caused Scary Car Crash
Shanahan shouldered the blame for the crash on Tuesday, July 28, when speaking to reporters.
Despite the California Highway Patrol initially attributing the fault to the other driver, Shanahan noted that it was a "clerical error" before admitting he was to blame.
Palo Alto Police confirmed Shanahan's explanation in a statement released to ESPN.
"Kyle Shanahan's statement that he provided is correct and that he was found at fault for the collision," the statement read. "There was a clerical error in the preparation of the report that was transmitted to the State database. We are in the process of correcting that error. It is the officer's discretion at the scene of the collision whether to issue a citation to either party. It is not uncommon for officers to elect not to issue a citation to either party involved in a collision. Neither party in this situation was provided preferential treatment."
