It has been a "cruel and unfair" journey for the news anchor, as she described in her social media post announcing her pregnancy. "I'm excited to share that I'm pregnant," she wrote.
Collinson, a news anchor for BBC News, continued by being "honest" about how she got to this point. "I also know that for anyone struggling to have a baby, seeing happy pregnancy announcements on social media can be hard... Getting to this point has taken my husband and me four long years."
She explained she had "experienced two miscarriages" and went through "two rounds of IVF". She continued, "Fertility problems can be incredibly isolating. There's the physical toll, of course, but too often the psychological drain is underestimated."
The news anchor explained that the hardest part for her was the "waiting for appointments, waiting for results and waiting for an outcome you have no real control over and may never materialize." She described the experience as "unfair and cruel", like "everyone around you is moving forward without you."

Collinson also revealed that she had felt "guilt" when feeling anything but happy upon hearing pregnancy news. She expressed her sympathy for those who might be feeling that way when reading her announcement, too.
"My thoughts are with anyone currently navigating their own fertility journey," she wrote. "I know sharing my experience won't make things easier, but I hope it might help you feel a little less alone or a little more understood."
"I'm so grateful to everyone who supported us through this time," she added. "I couldn't have got through it without my safe spaces where I could be truly honest, vent, cry, and even laugh."
The news anchor ended her post with a triumphant statement. "Today, I feel incredibly lucky. I don't take that for granted."
