A former television news anchor has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for murdering her elderly mother on Halloween last year.

Angelynn "Angie" Mock reportedly committed the killing because she believed she "had to kill her" and that her mother was "the devil."
Mock, 48, previously worked as a morning news anchor in St. Louis and Oklahoma City.
Former News Anchor Murdered Mother on Halloween
Mock pleaded guilty to murdering her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers. The killing occurred on Halloween morning in 2025 at their home in Wichita, Kansas.
Authorities discovered Avers in her bed with multiple stab wounds, while they found Mock outside the property with cuts on her hands.
"I'd kill that b—--- to have my mom back any day. I don't even know who she is anymore," Mock said following the incident, according to the affidavit.
"I know, I believe she's the devil," she added.
Mock told investigators that she went into her mother's room to discuss an upcoming job interview at a local news station.
She claimed that she found Avers sharpening knives before her mother came at her with a blade.
Mock Claimed She Had No Choice but to Kill Her Mother
Mock alleged that she had to overpower Avers, who she said accused her daughter of "f—-king Jesus Christ".
The former news presenter told investigators that she pinned her mother down and stabbed her. She claimed she had no other choice.
"I had to kill her, she wasn't going to stop," Mock said.
Mock's stepfather, Barry Avers, later told investigators that the 48-year-old had received a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder and experienced delusions and depression.
He said Mock would often spiral into delusional states and claim that people were "robots" and "not real people".
She is also said to have spoken to God and referred to herself as the Anti-Christ.
In January, a court initially found Mock mentally unfit to stand trial. A judge subsequently ordered her to undergo evaluation and treatment at a psychiatric hospital.
Mock later became competent to proceed with the case and pleaded guilty to her mother's murder.
On Monday, a judge sentenced the former news anchor to 25 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
