Doctor Caio Gomes and his wife, businesswoman Fernanda Diniz, both from Brazil, have survived a shipwreck. The couple was vacationing in the Maldives for their honeymoon when tragedy struck. As they were being ferried from Dhigurah Island to the capital, Malé a huge wave crashed into their boat.

At first, no one thought anything of it. Just a rough day at sea. However, shortly after the wave hit the boat, people began to notice some trouble. Video footage shows that after colliding with the wave, water began to seep into the boat. Although, the boat did not sink immediately. In fact, Mr. Gomes stated that the continued on for another 20 minutes before the captain told the passengers to abandon ship.

Many were fearful to abandon ship, however Daily Mail shared how other passengers were more fearful to stay on the ship. They shared the sentiments of another passenger, 27-year-old Gao. Gao shared that many people began jumping overboard without the captain's orders, because they were afraid they would get trapped inside of the boat and sink with it.

He said, "Everyone was actually very panicked, especially some foreign tourists because the captain did not give any instructions." Furthermore, Gao decided to take action. He shared that he was a diver so he had experience with life jackets and treacherous water. Therefore he helped many of the other passengers inflate their life jackets.

However, for the doctor and his wife, neither of their life jackets would inflate. Now they had jumped overboard, and had nothing to keep them afloat. Luckily, the couple was able to find an additional life jacket. When speaking with Brazilian media, Gomes said, "When we got out of the boat, we started swimming and found a loose life jacket. We managed to hold on to the life jacket and floated on it, and it held us both up."

About half an hour later rescue boats arrived and all passengers were safely removed from the water. While no one was seriously injured, the experience was traumatic. After all, no one wants their boat to sink on their honeymoon.
