In case you missed it, New York is in a pretty dire situation right now. As reported by The Sun, severe storms that started on Saturday, July 18, even caused a tornado warning.
The numbers were pretty crazy—per the National Weather Service, between two and four inches of rain had fallen in the Big Apple.
And that led to some really crazy things for people just trying to go about their daily lives. Water filled into subway stations and under bridges, causing havoc.
And it got so bad that a fire truck had to fight against the odds to save stranded drivers. A video posted on social media has gone viral of an FDNY fire truck pushing through an insane amount of water. And when I say insane, I mean insane.
New York Fire Truck Drives Through Deep Water To Save Stranded Drivers
New York has been plagued with some pretty terrible weather these past few days, with a flash flood warning and even a tornado warning.
And people went crazy over it in the comments section.
Some were critical of what they deemed to be a not-fit-for-purpose drainage system. One commenter wrote, "Ancient water drainage system & 17 working catch basin clearing trucks for a city of 10 million ... it's embarrassing what happens after some heavy rain & some people have had their houses, cars, and livelihoods ruined multiple times in the past few years."
But others were more understanding, especially given the extreme nature of the weather. One commenter wrote, "It does rain in NYC and at times it does flood. During an El Nino event things like this happen."
New York Was Rocked by the Flood
Other footage and eyewitness accounts showed some absolutely crazy sights.
Trash cans and restaurant umbrellas were seen bobbing down flooded roads, as people tried to shelter from the biblical levels of rain.
Authorities also shared concerns in the form of official guidance—an emergency flash flood warning was in effect. "This is a dangerous and life-threatening situation, do not attempt to travel unless you are fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order," the warning explained.
There were also concerns about the World Cup final, which is currently taking place in New Jersey.
We hope that things get back to normal soon in the Big Apple.
