New Orleans Terrorist Admits Plan To Murder His Family

Shamsud-Din Jabbar was responsible for driving a pickup truck into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street this past New Year's. He killed 14 people and injured dozens more. However, new video footage shows that this carnage may not have been his initial plan.
The footage came in the form of Facebook videos. CNN reports that Jabbar "made reference in the videos to his divorce and how he had first planned to gather his family for a 'celebration'." However, his intent was on killing them.
So, what made him change his mind from killing his family to becoming the New Orleans terrorist? Jabbar joined ISIS and shortly after decided that his plans needed adjusting. CNN reports that he changed his plans because he "wanted news headlines to focus on the 'war between the believers and the disbelievers.'" The videos, that were posted on Jabbar's Facebook page, have since been taken down.
From Normal To Terrorist?
Jabbar's actions came as a shock to many. Both his desire to murder his family and his actions as the New Orleans terrorist. As a CNN reporter commented, he seemed completely normal up until this point. She pointed out that he "served in the Army, went to college, worked in real estate" and several other things that are considered normal.
The only changes over the last few years were his financial and marital struggles. Jabbar has been divorced twice. Court documents showed that his first wife sued him over child support, which she won. Additionally, his second wife was granted a restraining order against him during their divorce. It mandated that "Jabbar refrain from threats, physical harm, or other stipulated behavior against his ex-wife and either of their children."
Furthermore, investigation uncovered that Jabbar had previous run-ins with the law. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft and served nine months of community service. Additionally, years later, he was charged with driving under the influence. He had his license suspended and was on probation for 12 months.
Recent findings show that Jabbar was struggling financially. CNN reports that an email "filed as part of his divorce case, he wrote that he could not afford a mortgage payment on his house." Additionally, in another email, he admitted that the business he had created had "lost about $28,000 the prior year." Not to mention the $16,000 credit card debt he had acquired.
While it is apparent that things were going south for Jabbar, it is still alarming to see how he could go from a seemingly normal person to someone who wanted to murder his family. Local law enforcement are still investigating the New Orleans terrorist and more details are expected to come.
