The New Texas: Troy Cartwright

Troy Cartwright has been making an impact on the Nashville scene via his hometown of Dallas, Texas. He’s been playing gigs in the Music City in between extensive tours of his home state as he follows the path of many other Texas country singers.

After moving back to the Lone Star State following his graduation from Berklee College of Music in 2012, Cartwright immersed himself in songwriting. A year later, Cartwright released his first EP, Bull Run, which earned acclaim from many in the Texas scene.

Earlier this year, Cartwright recorded his debut self-titled, full-length album with Grammy-nominated producer Wes Sharon, whose also worked with the Turnpike Troubadours and Parker Milsap. The album supplies a sleek mixture of modern country, alt-country and southern rock influences that culminate into one of the most impressive debuts of the year.

If you are lucky enough to find yourself in Texas, do yourself a favor and catch Cartwright during one of his many live shows. Otherwise, you can check out more of his music at his official website.

What He Sounds Like: A twangier Radney Foster, with a rock edge reminiscent of early Ryan Adams and the Cardinals.

Required Listening: “Next Flight Home”, an infectious love song that will have you hitting repeat.
