Many people were reintroduced to the "Save Me" singer when he won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Country Album earlier this week. While he was talking about his faith in his acceptance speech, it seemed like everyone else was wondering how he transformed himself after weighing around 550 pounds.
Many assumed he was using a GLP-1. However, he shared that his weight loss came from changing his mindset about food.
Jelly Roll Said His Weight Loss Was About "Food Addiction"
Jelly Roll talked about the moment he knew it was time to lose weight last year.
"A little bit over a year ago, I was, I literally struggled to walk down my hill to the mailbox," he said. "I mean, it was really bad. And I had let myself get to a point of just being absolutely disgusted with myself."
When asked about weight loss during a press session at the Grammy Awards, he shared he treated his love of food like an addiction. Since he had already kicked drugs, he used many of the same techniques to help him lose weight.
"First of all, I did a lot of consistent cardio and food," he said. "And I had to fight my food addiction just the way I fought my cocaine addiction. I had to really take it serious. I had to change my relationship with food, and had to do a lot of mental therapy and a lot of mental work to block the food noise."
Jelly Roll Doesn't Judge
The singer then talked about using GLP-1s like Ozempic to lose weight. These drugs work by mimicking the hormone that manages blood sugar, helping to reduce the appitite.
"Never did the GLP-1, but I don't judge nobody who does it," he said. Anybody who is 500 pounds, I don't care if you take one shot or ten, do whatever it takes to get the weight off. Don't listen to nobody else. Get your life straight, save that heart."
It's obviously worked. Not only has the weight loss had a tremendous impact on his life and career, but it also landed him on the cover of Men's Health.
