Both Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans will return to the writers' room to pen what will undoubtedly be another hit. The second installment of the fan-favorite movie is reportedly set for a 2029 release.
"I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters," Kang said. "There's so much more to this world we have built, and I'm excited to show you. This is only the beginning."
According to the BBC, the musical fantasy film became the most viewed movie in Netflix's history. Since its release in June 2025, it has been streamed a whopping 236 million times.
"KPop Demon Hunters has gone up, up, up, and it's their Golden moment! The animated musical officially became Netflix's most popular film of all time on the Most Popular English Films list with 236 million total views," Netflix announced in a statement. "KPop Demon Hunters was also the most-watched movie last week, once again taking the No. 1 spot on the English Film list with another 25.4 million views."
Unlike some of Netflix's larger titles, KPop Demon Hunters didn't arrive on the platform after months of being advertised. Instead, it succeeded courtesy of its quality, with word of mouth making it a shock global sensation.
KPop Demon Hunters Spent 15 Weeks in the Netflix Top 10
When you have a smash hit movie, and it's aimed at all ages, you're onto a winner. Netflix found that out throughout 2025, as KPop Demon Hunters smashed records for the longest time spent in the streaming giant's Top 10. In total, the movie was in that Top 10 for 15 weeks straight.
Of course, the fact that it had a banger soundtrack also helped. After all, Huntr/x has over 36 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone. "Golden" has been streamed over 1.5 billion times. Once a movie and its soundtrack reach that level of popularity, records are going to be created.
The exciting part is that KPop Demon Hunters 2 will have a much larger budget and will already have a built-in fan base. So, there's a good chance Netflix's records could be getting smashed again once 2029 rolls around.
