Neil Sedaka, the legendary singer and songwriter responsible for a slew of popular, upbeat hits like "Calendar Girl," "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do," and "Laughter In The Rain," has died at the age of 86, per Variety. Sedaka's longevity, abundant creativity, and stature as a game-changer were among his main trademarks.

Per TMZ, Sedaka was evidently unwell. He was transported to a hospital early on Friday morning. No cause of death was given.
In a statement posted on his website, Sedaka's family said, "Our family is devastated by the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Neil Sedaka. A true rock and roll legend, an inspiration to millions, but most importantly, at least to those of us who were lucky enough to know him, an incredible human being who will be deeply missed."
Sedaka summarized himself accurately and modestly on his website. "This is a gift I was born with. My main objective is to always top the last collection, raise the bar and reinvent Neil Sedaka."
Sedaka's Career Was Distinguished by Many Milestones
A product of the Brill Building's so-called "hit factory." Sedaka went on to stardom, especially in the 60s and 70s. The illustrious Brooklyn native wrote songs for many industry luminaries like the Captain and Tennille, Connie Francis, and Elton John. Despite his obvious talent and success, however, Sedaka never won a Grammy, although he was nominated five times.
Honors that did come his way included a Hollywood Walk of Fame star and induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
