Nate Smith is revealing what led to his massive weight loss. The singer has already lost 55 pounds, and feels much better than he did, thanks to his new, healthy outlook on life.

"I didn't like the way I looked," Smith admits to People. "I didn't like the way I felt. I didn't like how I was out of breath all the time and how I'd get dizzy just tying my shoes. I felt like I was slowly killing myself, and I didn't know what to do about it."
Prior to deciding to prioritize his health, Smith seemed to be at the top of his game. The California native had three back-to-back hit singles, including the multi-platinum "Whiskey on You." He also had a rigorous touring schedule, both on his own and opening for Morgan Wallen. It all became more than he could handle.
"It was rough," Smith admits. "I knew I was hurting myself, but I couldn't stop. It was like looking at this mountain and wondering, 'How do I get up there?' I didn't even know where to start."
How Nate Smith Took Charge Of His Health
Once Smith realized he was tired of being tired, he began to make small changes, which overtime became big changes. He drastically cut back on drinking, while also limiting his calories to just 2100 a day, and focusing on eating mostly protein. And now that the weight is starting to come off, Smith is eager to see how healthy he can become.
"I don't think of it as a diet, because if I do, I'm going to want to break the diet," Smith reveals. "I also don't want to restrict myself from the things I want to eat. If I want to have a macaroni and cheese meal, I'm going to do that; it's just I can't eat mac and cheese and then go drink a bunch of soda and have an ice cream bar after. I'm just mindful of the calories in everything."
Smith is unfortunately on vocal rest right now, while serving as the opening act on Jason Aldean's Full Throttle Tour. But when he is able to perform, he likes it much better now that he is healthier.
"I'm happier and more confident," says Smith. "It's changed the way I perform onstage. I have a lot more energy."
