"I Ain't Dwelling on Worst-Case Scenarios": Country Singer Stays Positive Despite Grueling Cancer Treatment That Threatens His Voice

I've heard people say that cancer treatment, like radiation and chemotherapy, is almost as bad as the disease itself. It can be physically and mentally taxing. There are often debilitating side effects. Most patients want the chance to get well, so they try to endure the challenges that cancer treatment often entails. That seems to be the case with singer Nat Myers. He wrote searchingly and movingly about his ordeal on

Facebook. Myers also included a video of himself singing about his journey.

His attitude is remarkable. We can all learn something from Myers' wisdom and hardiness, no matter what issues we face. For him, it's the possibility of having his voice significantly affected.

On February 24, 2025, Myers posted on Instagram that he was diagnosed with sarcoma, "with growths around my hearts [sic] and pulmonary artery." At that time, as now, he will not give in to fear, negativity, or powerlessness. In fact, Nat Myers vows, "...[T]here is beauty and life in the struggle."

Myers' Message About the "Red Devil Blues"

The singer, 35, posted this. He wrote candidly, without holding back. "Back in Feb '24 I got put on a chemo called red devil. It saved my life. I went from being a lost cause to a Hail Mary. So I wrote a slang about it. It's called Red Devil Blues. On Monday, I started it again. You can bet when I picked up a guitar in a while it was top of my mind. Truth told I been so blue I been hardly playin the blues, livin in my own shadow, slow to get back to the light."

He went on, "The aftermath of radiation has been a famine. Eatin's nigh impossible, & water has been like swallowing fire. But despite the pain, I wanted to keep fighting this death sitting on my chest. So back on chemo, an old devil for the job. I jump from one gauntlet to another like a grasshopper. Yet, with winter approachin, I feel a spring torrent wellin up inside me."

He's Trying To "Grin Back at the Abyss"

"Truth told I love this getting down, cuz getting up feels so good. Same highs you climb same lows you go. So I get climbing. From out my own shade back my own light. You and I still got good reasons to grin back at the abyss."

Nat Myers concluded with this uplifting thought. He is fighting every step of the way."My radiation doctor, Dr. K, told me the radiation treatment is sure to change my voice. I already feel it. In a month, a year, there's uncertainty I'll be able to sing atoll. But I ain't dwelling on worst case scenarios that ain't happened. I don't wear the habits of death, I don't dwell in that charnel house, I am written down in the book of Love. Livelihood, the passion of life only matter if you still got life. I'll always have my god-given soul even if my voice gets burned out my throat. Like a two-bit piece of gold that endures the world's rust, this ain't surviving, it's enduring, cuz like Tampa sang, it doesn't matter, I'll find my way"
